Meet Our New Tutor Ashley!
Ashley Daniels thinks there is no “right” way to get to an answer. She believes in self-exploration, travel and discovery-based learning to help students find their own way to a conclusion.
“I think it’s great to allow students to think creatively and find different solutions to the same answer,” she said.
A Philly native, Ashley joins the Tutor Delphia team while working towards her masters in Early Childhood Education at Saint Joseph’s University. Her bubbly personality, patience and appreciation for art makes Ashley a great tutor for any student.
Growing up, Ashley excelled in art and history. But not all classwork came naturally to her. She experienced struggles with the sciences early on in school.
“In school, my least favorite subject was science, which is odd because now I find it so fascinating,” she said. “I think it’s very important to teach students the value of science and show them how cool it is to learn things like the inner workings of plants and what causes ocean waves. I can now appreciate that science is an ever changing subject, and you can never stop learning.”
Similar to her passion for uncovering new facts about the world through science or art, Ashley’s tutoring philosophy also strongly focuses on allowing students to discover their own path to the right answer.
“There is always more than one way to answer a question,” Ashley said. “A story can be interpreted a number of different ways, and it’s important to review all of those ways to define what the story meant to you. In math, it’s very easy to think that there’s only one way to get to a solution. But it’s important to know that you can take a number of different ways to get to that solution, and I like helping students find those ways.”
Ashley said that in order to get to those conclusions a teacher must have patience. She said it’s a quality to carry with you throughout life.
“Everybody will go at their own speed, and it’s important to respect that,” she said. “If you take a second to breathe, think about what you know, what you don’t know, and what you can change, then you can accomplish anything.”
Ashley has a great perspective on life and what makes a great relationship between a tutor and a student. At Tutor Delphia, we love her creative background in the arts and animation and her bubbly personality. But don’t let her friendly attitude fool you; Ashley is 100 percent about discipline and determination.
“The best part of tutoring is when a student realizes no subject is too hard, they just all require hard work.”
