Science After School Delivers
Braving the torrential rains, grade school students packed South Philadelphia’s Fumo Family library as part of the Philadelphia Science Festival Science After School program. A representative from the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge displayed the pelt and skulls of different animals to show where you can find wildlife in the city. Hint: They’re all over! The Chemical Heritage Foundation brought plants so students could get a firsthand glimpse into their growth cycle. Students donned goggles and played games with a Franklin Institute volunteer to see how their brain adjusts to wearing goggles. Astronaut food and gear were exhibited as representatives from NASA’s Marshall’s Space Flight Center discussed the process of getting astronauts into space and what happens to them once they’re there.
The 2014 Philadelphia Science Festival ends with a big science carnival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Saturday, May 3rd. Make sure to check it out! The all-day event is sure to have something for everyone.
