Our Favorite Places to Study in Philly
In addition to being home to the cheesesteak and Philly Phanatic, Philadelphia is peppered with coffee houses, parks and libraries where you can get your study on. These are some of our favorite places to study and tutor our students:
City Wide
The Free Library of Philadelphia
The FLP has 54 locations in Philadelphia. All FLP offer ridiculously quiet spaces for studying because it’s a library. Use their computers if you don’t have one of your own, though you may get about a half hour of computer access before you have to give up your spot depending which branch you go to. Hours vary from branch to branch, so check your local library hours on the FLP’s website.
North Philly
Highpoint Café
7210 Cresheim Rd.
With awesome crepes, baked goods & coffee, you can’t go wrong with this place. An incredibly popular place in Mt. Airy, try grabbing a seat early on the weekends or during the week.
Leotah’s Place Coffeehouse
2033 E York St.
Plenty of seating, both indoor and out, Leotah’s Place is a great place for specialty lattes, a community atmosphere and fantastic customer service.
The Lola Bean
1325 Frankford Ave.
Giant windows, amazing coffee and delicious pastries, this place is great for alternating between studying and people watching. Free and reliable wifi, a colorful interior and friendly staff create a wonderful study atmosphere.
South Philly
Ultimo Coffee Bar
1900 S. 15th Street
Located in Point Breeze, this coffee bar is perfect for those who enjoy alcohol while studying as it is also the home of beer boutique brew. Open till 9pm every day, the place is perfect for the hipster, student, or hipster student, as it offers brewed-per-cup coffee concoctions, free Wi-Fi, and a huge local and imported beer selection.
Chapterhouse Café & Gallery
620 S. 9th St.
Located near South St, Philly’s famous Pat & Geno’s and the Italian Market, Chapterhouse is a popular destination for students. They have plenty of space, reliable WiFi access and board games available when you need a study break.
Bean Exchange Café
650 Bainbridge Street
Located in the Bella Vista neighborhood, the Bean Exchange Café is a relatively quiet area considering South Street is one block over; Bean Exchange offers free Wi-Fi and a good amount of outdoor seating when the weather permits. The coffee is excellent, plus the place opens at 6am.
Center City
Good Karma Café

Good Karma has two locations in Center City. Both locations offer free and dependable Wi-Fi, lots of outlets and an outdoor patio in the back. Their multiple rooms and ample seating mean you won’t spend 10 minutes waiting for a table, plus they offer stuff like agave nector, cinnamon and sugar-free syrup to sweeten their yummy coffee. Both are open till 10pm every day.
The Last Drop Coffee House
1300 Pine St.
With two floors, including an awesome basement space, and outdoor seating, this coffee shop has plenty of room. With exceptional zucchini bread, delicious coffee, and a laid back atmosphere, this a great place to study solo or in groups.
Elixr Coffee
207 S. Sydenham St.
This place is great if you like drip coffee and soyoptions. With high quality coffee and open space, this is a great place to study if you find yourself in the shopping district of Center City.
West Philly
Satellite Café
701 S 50th St.
Satellite Café is in University City right next to or under Firehouse Bikes. It has a modern hippie clientele and they are vegan friendly. They have a collection of books if you forgot to bring something to study. Their signature foods are kale smoothies and black bean wraps. This quite café is great for studying solo, in groups or with your tutor.
Reeds Coffee and Tea House
3802 Lancaster Ave.
Located in Powelton Village, this unassuming café is the best this neighborhood offers. It has a calm atmosphere, fresh organic coffee, healthy food options and outdoor seating with umbrellas.
Clark Park
43rd Street and Baltimore Avenue
Located a few blocks away from West Philly’s 40th trolley station, Clark Park is another sweet West Philly Study Spot.
