SAT: A critical thinking test

  • The SAT is a trickier test, but your tutor can teach you all of the the tactics you need to outsmart the test.
  • Do you have a great vocabulary? This test will let you show off your skills.
  • Fewer questions:
Essay: 1
Writing: 49
Mathematics: 54
Critical Reading: 67
Total: 171
  • Longer: 3 hours 45 minutes
  • While you have more time per question, each question is longer and more involved.
  • If you are smart but haven't done your best in your classwork, you may be able to figure out the SAT's tricks and do better on it.

Still not sure which to take?

Your best bet is to take a practice test in both (or in the PSAT for the SAT and the PLAN for the ACT) and see which you do better on. To compare the tests use your percentile ranking or this chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT#SAT-ACT_score_comparisons .
Our tutors can help you make great gains on both tests but because there are more test-taking strategies and tricks to the SAT expect more dramatic gains from using a tutor for the SAT than the ACT.
